In Situations, photographer Wouter van Solinge captures the quiet, often overlooked moments of everyday life. Rather than freezing decisive or dramatic events, Wouter turns his lens toward subtle human gestures and fleeting interactions—moments that are in motion, without clear beginnings or endings. His photographs offer glimpses into the lives of strangers, lives as unknown to him as they are to us. This distance creates space for interpretation and invites viewers to pause, reflect, and question what they see.

Situations is a curated selection of 94 black-and-white photographs spanning five decades. Wouter’s process is both meticulous and intuitive. As a perfectionist observer, he studies human behavior and spatial dynamics before taking the shot. For him, looking is a form of inquiry—an active way of understanding the world. His images are not just about what’s inside the frame, but also about what has just passed or what is about to unfold.

Situations reveals the vulnerability, distance, and quiet connections that shape our daily lives. Wouter finds beauty not in spectacle, but in the unnoticed fragments that make us human. His work gently reminds us that these subtle, unremarkable moments are where life truly happens.

Situations will be launched on the 12th of February at the studio of LMNOP (Achter de Dom 14, Utrecht). You can pick-up orders there, or buy a book on the spot!

SPECIAL EDITION
Especially for the launch of the book Wouter printed one photo in a limited edition of 15. The photo is printed at 20x30cm by Fotolab Kiekie and will be signed and numbered by Wouter.
